July 1, 2010

Hello Friends of BATV-

This July 4th weekend presents us with a challenge for taping all the events that are happening in our community.  We are reaching out to see of anyone can spare an hour or two on July 4th to cover an event for us.  Here is what needs to be covered:

American Dialogue:  8am to 10:30am in the City Council Chambers at City Hall - This is a conversation about our "hopes, fears and dreams for the community, nation and the world". It is a wonderful way to begin the celebration of Independence Day and show our gratitude for the freedom we have to share our dreams for the future.

July 4th Parade:  10:30am start at the Peg Bond Center - A patriotic parade along the Riverwalk with stops along the way to sing songs and recite patriotic writings, concluding with a flower toss into the Fox River from the pedestrian bridge.  This is a great family event.

Batavia Fireworks:  7pm to 10pm at Engstrom Park - The night kicks off with the band "Automatic Fixx" at 7pm.  "Sky Concert" begins at 9:15pm with announcements and welcome by the Mayor.

These are all events that BATV has covered in the past.  This year we have a strong need for volunteer support for covering these events.  If you are available to cover these evetns, we would greatly appreciate your help.  This is a great way to support our community and keep these events on BATV.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are available to tape any of these events.

Thank you in advance for your assistance-

June 29, 2010 - BATV joins forces with the Kane County Chronicle

Seeking to increase community awareness and better serve our viewers, Batavia Access Television has joined with the Kane County Chronicle to promote collaboration, content sharing and the circulation of knowledge.  This relationship will give local residents ever expanding options for accessing programming which appears on BATV, as well as that which the Chronicle posts in its Web edition.

BATV and the Kane County Chronicle seek to reach new viewers and gain local support through offering visibility in multiple media outlets.  Video segments unique to the Chronicle, such as Pet of the Week, Quickcast, lifestyle videos associated with the Kane County Magazine and prep sports analysis programming will now be available through BATV, as well.  BATV will share its popular Municipal Minute, Board Brief, prep sports highlights and original programming with the Chronicle.

BATV Station Manager, Holly Deitchman says, "The exchanging of programs and visibility have the potential to carry our mission of educating and benefiting our community by providing residents with more options for viewing important videos, and giving the community multiple outlets for original programming.  We know that it is imperative for residents to have access to their local government bodies, and to learn about those things which make their community unique."

The two parties hope that, through their partnership, they will grow together as advocates for the local community.

Batavia, IL – Batavia Access Television is thrilled to announce that it will now reach all AT&T U-verse customers in AT&T's Northern Illinois district. While continuing to serve Comcast customers on channels 10 and 17, BATV will now broadcast on AT&T U-verse channel 99. Station Manager Holly Deitchman reports that all board members, staff, producers and volunteers are excited to join a large community of public access stations, gaining a wide audience across Northern Illinois.

To easily access BATV on AT&T U-verse, select Channel 99 on your U-verse menu and select Batavia Access Television from the list of public stations. After selecting Batavia Access Television, you may choose between the Government Access and Public Access stations. Government Access brings viewers closer to their community by broadcasting local board meetings. Everything from library to park to school boards, as well as city government meetings can be viewed on Government Access. Public Access broadcasts Batavia High School sports, music concerts and highlights local happenings, along with a bulletin board, local sponsorships and community productions. Deitchman says that the Batavia community will benefit from this expanse in viewership.

In addition to the acquisition of a second home, BATV is proud to cover Batavia High School Sports as they enter the Upstate 8 Conference, which includes St. Charles and Geneva High Schools, in the fall of 2010. This move will allow BATV's live broadcasts of home football and basketball games to reach the homes of fans of all Upstate 8 members, expanding viewership. Deitchman says, "Bulldog fans and fans of the competition, who subscribe to AT&T U-verse, that cannot make it to the games, can now view live broadcasts on our stations."

“We are proud of progress that BATV has made over the years,” Deitchman said, “and we are excited to share our stations with the surrounding communities.” BATV encourages the community to share its growth by continuing to volunteer at the station. We welcome video submissions and sponsorships at all times. The coupling of the anticipated increase in viewership resulting from BATV’s expansion to AT&T U-verse with Batavia High School’s move to the Upstate 8 Athletic Conference will provide sponsors and those who create videos with a much wider audience.
