Gas Price Update: Batavia Prices See Slight Uptick At Start Of 2023

BATAVIA, IL — As 2023 gets its wheels off the ground, it’s leaving behind the lower gas prices Batavia residents briefly enjoyed at the end of last year.

As of Thursday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Illinois was $3.49 — that’s up 11 cents from a week ago and down 4 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

At around $3.48 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were slightly below the state average. Nationally, the price per gallon of gas is going for an average of $3.27 Thursday.

Comparatively, the last time Patch took a look at gas prices, the average price for a gallon of gas in Kane County was $3.08.

The recent uptick in gas prices was caused by the recent frigid weather and robust travel, according to AAA. But prices will likely fall again.

“As we head toward February, pump prices will likely dip, barring any jolt in the global oil market,” Andrew Gross, an AAA spokesperson, said in a statement. “But it is likely that the national average prices we saw heading into Christmas may have been the lows for this winter.”

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Batavia is selling for $3.19 per gallon at Walmart, 885 N. Randall Road. Here is what other stations around town are charging:
