BATAVIA — A man in jail for violating parole was charged with conspiring with another man to smuggle contraband into jail.
A $20 bill, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.
Eric P. Doleman, 52, who has spent most of the past 20 years in prison, and Curtis Williams, 56, of Batavia were charged last week with second-degree promoting prison contraband and sixth-degree conspiracy, both misdemeanors. Williams was released on an appearance ticket.
Deputies said the two conspired to have Williams smuggle a $20 bill into jail and pass it to him during a visit Oct. 29.
Doleman is in jail on a parole detainer after separate theft charges during the summer. He was charged with petit larceny for allegedly stealing a Reese’s snack cake from a gas station, two more counts for stealing from another store in the city and then with petit larceny again, for stealing $128.04 worth of items from Walmart.
Doleman had been released from state prison July 12 after serving time for a forgery conviction.
He is on parole until Dec. 6, 2027, according to the state Department of Corrections.
It is Doleman’s fourth state prison term since 2002, when he was sentenced to 18 months to three years for stealing a car in Chemung County.
He was released in 2005 and a year later was sentenced to another 18 months to three-year term for possessing stolen property in Monroe County.
Doleman served the entire sentence, and was released in 2009.
Two years later, Doleman and a man he met in prison were arrested and charged with burglarizing a house on Maple Street in Batavia.
Doleman was later convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison.
He was released in September 2019.
He was arrested again in August 2021 for possessing counterfeit money and was sentenced in March to two to four years in state prison.
He was released after serving four months.
