Shire of Murray Council awards contracts for South Yunderup community boating facility upgrades

South Yunderup residents can look forward to a refreshed Murray River experience after the Shire of Murray council awarded two contracts for upgrade works at Batavia Quays.

The new boating facilities will include the installation of a floating jetty, an extension to the existing boat ramp and the demolition of a jetty abutment.

Universal Marina System has been contracted to install the new jetty, while Mandurah Jetty Constructions will extend the boat ramp and remove the jetty abutment.

The works are set to be funded partially by the shire and partially from a Department of Transport grant under the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme, a strategy designed to assist development of public recreational boating facilities across the State.

Murray shire chief executive Dean Unsworth hopes the upgrades will bring tourists to the community.

“We’re creating places for people in Murray and that includes looking at how we connect our natural assets, waterways, parks and reserves to our residents,” he said.

“This work will greatly enhance accessibility and promote visitation to the region for the recreational boating community.”
